Description
AX10 / AT-8710 is an innovative formulation solution used to generate high purity chlorine dioxide using Accepta’s high performance Activ-Ox Simplicity chlorine dioxide generating system.
AX10 is used in-conjunction with AV8 (activator) and the Activ-Ox Dosing System.
AX10 is a unique product which through a controlled reaction releases the ‘active oxygen’ power of chlorine dioxide to disinfect and maintain the microbial quality of drinking, domestic and cooling water systems. It can also be used for odour control and to remove iron, manganese and sulphide from solution.
Chlorine Dioxide is an extremely effective anti-microbial agent which has significant advantages over traditional chlorine based biocides, but has to be handled with extreme care because of its toxic and potentially explosive nature. AX10 is a stable, easy to handle solution which when used in conjunction with the Activ-Ox Simplicity generator system provides all the benefits of chlorine dioxide with none of the problems. When compared with any other means of generating chlorine dioxide the Activ-Ox system is the only system which can provide instant activation and total control.
Benefits of Chlorine Dioxide v Chlorine
Chlorine Dioxide | Chlorine |
No taste or odour | Taste and odour problems |
Does not form chlorinated by by-products | Forms trihalomethanes |
No reaction with nitrogen containing compounds | Produces Chloramines |
Unaffected by pH | Reduced effectiveness at high pH |
Penetrates and disperses biofilms | Little effect on biofilms |
Application & Dosage Information
Activation
The biocidal power of AX10 only becomes available on reaction with the system activator, AV8 chlorine dioxide release agent.
Where continuous dosage is required a Activ-Ox chlorine dioxide generating system should be used.
Cost per m3
To work out the cost of treatment per m3 you need to take the volume of the drum (around 25,000ml for 25kg drum) and divide it by the dosage rate in ml (usually 100 x desired ppm). This equals the number of m3 you can treat per batch.
Then take the cost of a batch (1x drum of AX10 + 1x drum of AV8) and divide by the m3 you can treat per batch.
eg. To dose 0.5ppm (drinking water level) is 50ml/m3. (100 x 0.5ppm)
25,000ml ÷ 50ml = 500m3 (of water treated)
(Cost of batch) ÷ 500 = £0.XX/m3
Disinfection (dosage rates)
AX10 combined with AV8 will produce a 0.5% solution (5000mg/litre or 5000ppm) which can be used as a comparison against lower strength competitor products, you would however NEVER mix the two chemicals neat. Activ-Ox chemicals are ideally combined by an Activ-Ox dosing system. Or for tank setups pour one chemical in, fill the tank with water and then add the second in that order. eg. 1 drum of each with water into 1000l tank.
Storage tanks and domestic water services should be disinfected using 2.5L/m3 of system volume AX10 and a similar volume of AV8. The system should be left for a minimum of one hour before flushing out.
Alternatively, for large tanks spray disinfection may be employed using a solution containing 5L/m3 of AX10 and AV8.
Cooling towers and evaporative condensers should be disinfected by maintaining 25ppm of chlorine dioxide in re-circulation for a period of one hour before and after cleaning.
Accepta technical support can advise on the correct procedure.
Continuous Application
The quality of drinking water can be maintained by continuously dosing AX10 and AV8 to provide a maximum concentration of 0.5ppm total oxidant as chlorine dioxide at the outlets of the system.
Accepta technical support can advise on the correct dosage levels.
For non-drinking water applications such as domestic hot water services dosage rates may be increased to provide increased protection against Legionella Pneumophila.
Cooling towers and evaporative condensers should be dosed to maintain 0.2 to 0.5ppm chlorine dioxide in re-circulation. The residual oxidant level can be easily monitored with a simple Accepta test.
It is recommended that in all continuous dosing applications an Activ-Ox dosing system is used to ensure the correct application and maximise the benefit of this innovative product.
