Description
Accepta 2889 is a high performance scale and corrosion inhibitor water treatment product based on a blended formulation of vegetable tannin extracts, alkalis and polymers. Accepta 2889 is scientifically formulated to prevent corrosion, scale and fouling in hot water and chilled water systems.
Accepta 2889 can also be used in low pressure steam boilers as a single drum programme, where it is specially designed for waters with a high non-alkaline hardness, low alkaline hardness, a low CO2 content and a low silica level.
Accepta 2889 is suitable for ferrous and cuprous materials. It may be used with care, in systems containing galvanized steel but is unsuitable for systems containing aluminium.

Application & Dosage Information
For complete dosage and feeding recommendations for Accepta 2889 please contact Accepta technical support.
In closed hot water, or chilled water systems, Accepta 2889 is dosed so as to maintain the tannin index at 12-16 and the pH to suit the materials of construction. For ferrous/cuprous systems, the pH is maintained preferably above 9; for aluminium or galvanizing, pH is maintained between 8.0 and 8.5.
The testing schedule should include regular dipslide counts and a suitable biocide dosed when counts show significant increase.
The initial dose of Accepta 2889 is normally 3 – 5 litres/m3 (3 gallons/1000 gallons), which may be added manually via a dosing pot or to the feed/expansion tank, or may be injected via a pump. Where water losses from the system are high, a dosing pump driven by a make-up water meter is recommended to facilitate proper maintenance of treatment reserves.
For steam boilers, Accepta 2889 is dosed to the feed tank so as to maintain the tannin index and the pH of the boiler water within set limits, usually a tannin index of 12-16 and a pH greater than 10.
Accepta 2889 is recommended for use in large-bore ferrous systems, steel or cast iron radiators and district heating mains. It is also suitable for systems with copper pipework and heat exchangers but not where multiple small-bore terminal heating and chilled coils or versatemp unit heat pumps are included.
It is compatible with glutaraldehyde biocides at all temperatures and with isothiazolinones at temperatures below 50 oC (122 oF).
Accepta 2889 is the preferred product for use in preserved locomotive boilers, models, exhibition and museum boilers where the tannins can provide valuable protection from corrosion during frequent idle periods and also help to deal with the oil ingress associated with reciprocating engines.
It presents very low hazard and is undemanding in terms of the simple and non-critical control of the treatment program.
It is always advisable to carry out a ‘Control Of Substances Hazardous to Health’ (COSHH) assessment before use.
