Description and Use

BIOCIDE IBN10 is a broad spectrum, non-foaming, readily biodegradable micro-biocide for use in industrial open and closed heating and cooling systems. It is based on a formulation of Bronopol and Isothiazoline derivatives and is completely soluble in water. At relatively low concentrations it is effective against a range of microorganisms including many gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, fungi, and algae.

BIOCIDE IBN10 is effective over a wide range of pH and can be used in isolation or alternately with other non-oxidising or oxidising biocides.

Broad Spectrum Biocidal Efficacy Against:

Bacteria Moulds Yeasts
Achromobacter sp. Aspergillus sp. Candida albicans
Aeromonas sp. Cephalosporium sp. Rhodotorula sp.
Alcaligenes sp. Cladosporium sp. Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Bacillus sp. Fusarium sp.
Escherichia coli Paecilomyces variotii
Flavobacterium sp. Penicillium funiculosum
Klebsiella sp.
Proteus sp.
Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Streptomyces sp.

Application & Dosage Information

Dose periodically at a rate of 100-200ml/m3 of the total system volume. In a badly fouled system, an initial shock dose of 400-500ml/m3 may be required.

Chilled and LTHW Systems

In order to control potentially problematic microbial contamination, it is recommended for chilled water and LTHW applications that the system is dosed initially at the rate of 100 – 200ml / 1000 litres of system volume and that is repeated once every 3 months.

Open Evaporative Cooling Systems

The required frequency of biocide dosage will depend on the retention time of the cooling system and tendency of the system to become contaminated with nutrients that will encourage microbial growth.

A typical biocide dosing frequency for systems with a long retention time would be once / week but for systems which change their water more frequently and have a short retention time then the frequency of dosages will need to be increased (typically twice per week).

The general microbial activity (TVC) in the system can be monitored using microbial dipslides. Good control is indicated by a general bacteria level (TVC) of less than 104 cfu/ml. It is recommended that a dipslide test is taken weekly and the system is tested specifically for legionella bacteria at least once per quarter.

Bacteria can become to resistant to any non-oxidising biocide, therefore this product is most effective when used with an alternative non-oxidising biocide on rotation in open cooling systems. Contact us for more information.

It is always advisable to carry out a ‘Control Of Substances Hazardous to Health’ (COSHH) assessment before use.

Testing & Analysis

Product residual can be monitored regularly using an Isothiazolinone test kit, a reserve of between 1 – 3ppm should be measured for dosage rates of 100 – 200ml/m3.

However, due to the potential for microbiological resistance, it is prudent to use microbiological analysis (i.e. dipslides, ATP tests or lab samples) to verify the efficacy of non-oxidising biocides as opposed to residual chemical analysis.
