Description
ACCEPTA DIOXYSHIELD remains as liquid Chlorine Dioxide and does not form a gas. The equilibrium reaction allows for the regeneration of Chlorine Dioxide from the precursor and by-product, Sodium Chlorite. The product remains effective for significantly longer than commodity chemicals and generated Chlorine Dioxide.
The chemical can be successfully applied in applications unsuitable to generated Chlorine Dioxide or alternative oxidising biocides. These applications include disinfection of (potable) water and associated equipment (e.g., tanks, pipes, calorifiers and filters), hot water, down well water injection, turbulent water systems, pressure drop, cooling tower and spray systems. It is also highly effective in the oxidative precipitation of heavy metals such as soluble Iron or Manganese.
ACCEPTA DIOXYSHIELD is approved under the Biocidal Product Register (BPR) for usage in PT2, PT3, PT4, PT5, PT11, PT12.
The equilibrium regeneration of Chlorine Dioxide from Sodium Chlorite means this product is inherently stable at any concentration and will improve safety in use and biocidal performance whilst reducing chemical and raw material consumption, supply chain logistics and overall energy usage when compared to traditional biocides.
The active biocide in ACCEPTA DIOXYSHIELD is Chlorine Dioxide. Sodium Hypochlorite is also present to maintain the Chlorine Dioxide in the liquid phase and in equilibrium. There is no formation of chlorinated by- products such as Trihalomethanes or Haloacetic acids, which are suppressed by the complex.
The selective and controlled oxidation of ACCEPTA DIOXYSHIELD efficiently targets the single-cell organisms of bacteria (e.g. Legionella, E.coli, Vibrio cholerae), fungi and algae. The free radical of the Chlorine Dioxide molecule successfully breaks down biofilm safely and without disruption to the water system or supply.
Dosing
ACCEPTA DIOXYSHIELD can be dosed manually or directly from the original container using a suitable dosing pump. It can also be controlled automatically by a timer, on flow rate using a contact head water meter, or by chemical residual measurement using either oxidation-reduction (ORP) or a free chlorine/chlorine dioxide inline sensor and controller.
Fluorinated plastics are not required for use with ACCEPTA DIOXYSHIELD.
The following dosing quantities are understood to be general guidelines. The actual dosage is dependent on a number of factors, such as the degree of contamination, and must be sufficient to comply with microbial control regulations. Talk to your representative for more specific guidance for your system.
Application | Typical Dosage (ml/m3 water) |
Potable water (humans/animals) | 10 |
Swimming Pool/Spa | 30 – 40 |
Evaporative Cooling Tower | (15 – 20)/C* |
Process Water | 20 – 100 |
Hot & Cold Water Services** | 10 – 15 |
*Divide guidance dosage by cooling tower cycles of concentration, C, for required chemical addition.
**For system flushing & compliance disinfection/cleaning refer to HSG 274 & BS 8558 for dosage and contact time.
Shock Disinfection
For heavily fouled systems and where persistent presence of Legionella is an issue then a super disinfection of up to 500mg/m3 may be recommended dependant on level of contamination and organic load for a contact time of 4 hours.
Measurement
The Chlorine Dioxide in ACCEPTA DIOXYSHIELD is maintained in equilibrium meaning that not all Chlorine Dioxide is available for measurement at any one time.
Simply measure as Free Chlorine via test the strips, photometers or electrochemical meters to provide an accurate determination of the Chlorine Dioxide available in the sample with conversion factors:
Measurement: Free Chlorine (FC) x 1.9 = Chlorine Dioxide ClO2
Based on the typical dosage rates provided above the following results might be expected.
Application | Total Chlorine (mg/l) | Free Chlorine Minimum (mg/l) | Equivalent to ClO2 (mg/l) |
Potable water (humans/animals) | 0.6 | 0.25 | 0.475 |
Swimming Pool/Spa | 1.8 – 2.4 | 1.0 | 1.9 |
Evaporative Cooling Tower | 0.9 – 1.2 | 0.5 | 0.95 |
Process Water | 1.2 – 6.0 | 0.5 | 0.95 |
Hot & Cold Water Services | 0.6 – 0.9 | 0.25 | 0.475 |
Free and Total chlorine can be measured using DPD1 and DPD3 reagents, respectively.
Dilution of ACCEPTA DIOXYSHIELD
6% (60,000)ppm can be diluted prior to use to a minimum concentration of 3,000ppm.
Only deionised or demineralised water, low in calcium and magnesium, should be used to prevent the precipitation of insoluble salts.
Biocide | Chlorine Dioxide |
Active Substances | Sodium Chlorite & Sodium Hypochlorite |
Appearance | Liquid Preparation |
Concentration of active substance | 6% (produces 60g ClO2 per 1kg of product) |
It is always advisable to carry out a ‘Control Of Substances Hazardous to Health’ (COSHH) assessment before use.
